Last year for FMS/CFS Awareness Day, the DFC joined with the Northeast community Fibromyalgia/CFS Support Group at Holly Hill Health Foods to give out brochures and spread awareness about FMS/CFS.
Sadly this year, with renewed health comes renewed responsibilities, and I simply will not have the time to go. However, if anyone from our group would like to volunteer to represent us, I can contact Arlene Porter, their facilitator. These are the dates they’re considering: May 9 at Holly Hill Health Food in NorthWales, PA or possibly the 14, 16, 28 or 30, 2013 in the Northeast.
Last year we also went to the FMS Awareness walkathon. This year it will be held on Saturday, June 15 at Tyler State Park. I’m working to get more information.
While I would love to do more of these sort of activities, I think this year we need to focus on coming up with some fund-raising ideas so that we are in a better position to do them in the future. We need supplies, such as a banner, brochures, business cards, handouts, etc.At this date, the group does not even have a bank account – so that’s first on our ‘to do’ list. I still need to find out if we need 501c3 status to accomplish this. A lot has changed. Since we are not allowed to take donations on hospital grounds, I would like to add a way to take donations via paypal on our website. I’m also looking into opening a CafePress store for the group. The revenue from t-shirt sales would help us maintain the website and do more of these type of education and awareness campaigns. And in the mean time, we can start thinking about what we’d want to do for 2014.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help get these projects off the ground, please email me at email@example.com.
